ENGLISH 101 + ENGLISH 101L: Composition I with Laboratory The English 101 course is exactly the same as English 100; 101 and 100 students are in the same classroom and the course description and activities are identical. However, students who enroll in English 101 must also enroll in English 101L, where they have the benefit of working with a tutor two times a week, outside of class (1 half-hour one-on-one meeting and 1 hour-long small group meeting). Because the tutor will attend your class and meet with your instructor regularly, the tutor will know your instructor’s expectations. Tutors can also make your transition to college easier by directing you to resources across campus, putting you in touch with the people and places that can assist you in excelling in every aspect of your university career. Tutors provide weekly, one-on-one attention to your writing. For this extra weekly work, you will receive one credit (for ENG 101L) that counts only toward your status as a full-time student in the semester that you take the course. The one credit will not count toward graduation. Note: Because each English 101 professor uses different books and approaches, and because not all sections have an ENG 101L component, check the semester’s section descriptions to find the tutored section that’s best for you.
